MESA and TESE

This are two techniques that are used to resolve cases of azoospermia (male infertility due to complete absence of sperm in the semen), in which the absence of sperm is due to obstruction of the seminal ducts.
In these patients, sperm is produced in the testes but it is not present in the semen because it remains blocked at the obstructed duct (obstructive azoospermia). These techniques are very complex, but at the same time are quiet interesting, specially from an ethical point of view, since they have permitted many couples to avoid the donation of semen to obtain a pregnancy. In MESA (Micro Epididimal Sperm Aspiration) sperm is aspirated with microsurgery techniques from epididimus (, and in TESE (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) , sperm and/or spermatide are aspirated directly from the testes.
These techniques are performed at the ambulatory office with local or regional anesthesia. Sperm and spermatides obtained are preserved in our semen bank and for they are used to carry out IFV/ET or, as preferred, ICSI on the partern's oocytes.
Both techniques, including male and female partner, are carried out at the main office of Centro Demetra ( V. A. Pacinotti 34, Palermo).
