Dr. Ligia J. Dominguez  was born in Duitama (Colombia) where she received her  MD degree (cum Laude) in 1986 at the “Universidad del Rosario” of Bogotá (validated in the USA since 1993 and in Italy, since 1996).
She completed her residency program in Internal Medicine at the “Universidad del Rosario” in 1991. Afterwards she worked in Detroit (Michigan, USA) at Wayne State University from 1993 to 1996 where she obtained the degree of Specialist in Endocrinology. During that period she worked with world recognized experts in different fields of Endocrinology (Prof.  James R. Sowers, Prof.  Michael Kleerekoper, Prof. Lawrence M. Resnick) and acquired specific experience and competence in the following fields: Diabetes, Obesity, Metabolic Syndrome, Thyroid Diseases, Osteoporosis, and Hypertension.

Since 1997 Dr. Dominguez collaborates with the Chair of Geriatrics of the University of Palermo, directed by Prof. Mario Barbagallo, with clinical and didactic activities. She teaches “Applied Dietary Techniques” at the School of Dietetics of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Palermo and “Geriatric Endocrinology” at the Geriatric School of the University of Palermo.
At “Centro Demetra”, where she is a Consultant Physician since 2000, Dr. Dominguez is engaged in the evaluation and management of Endocrinological and Metabolic problems linked to Infertility and Medically Assisted Reproduction and implement comprehensive Dietary and Nutritional Education Programs for patients with problems related to obesity, overweight and underweight, frequent causes of infertility.
Dr. Dominguez has authored more than 100 scientific papers in peer review national and international journals and has been invited to give conferences at national and international meetings. Dr. Dominguez has received several awards for her research in the field of Endocrinology and Metabolism.
